The iPhone is a phone capable of working in many countries, but Apple still has to make two different versions of the same terminal: one for CDMA and one for LTE.

This may have its days numbered thanks to Qualcomm has announced that its new RF360 chip that is capable of working in 40 different frequency bands, allowing Apple and other companies do not have to make multiple versions of the same device depending on the type the network on which to work. Some of the technology that supports this chip are: LTE-FDD, LTE-TDD, WCDMA, EV-DO, CDMA 1X, TD-SCDMA and GSM / EDGE.

Qualcomm has announced that this chip can start enjoyed by lance n devices during the second half of 2013, therefore, it is very likely that the next generation iPhone and iPad it incorporated to eliminate once and for all the fragmentation that have now.

Here in Spain we do not have such problems as none of our operators using the CDMA protocol. Hopefully soon adapt infrastructure to exploit the bandwidth that LTE provides the connection but I think we still have a long way to go in this regard.
