Time magazine named the iPhone 5 gadget of the year

iPhone 5 blanco 193x350 La revista Time nombra al iPhone 5 gadget del año

The year ends and, like clockwork, Time magazine has released its annual collection of 55 lists showing the best and worst of the past 12 months. And as you have already guessed from the title, the publication has named the iPhone 5 as the "Gadget of the Year".

The phone Apple overtook several products from rivals Samsung and Microsoft, including the Galaxy Note II Surface and tablet and the new Nintendo console, the Wii U. In fact, the author, Harry McCracken, says it is one of the best built gadgets that has ever seen.

Here's an excerpt from the report McCracken:

"The iPhone 5, which starts at $ 199 with a two-year contract, is one of the most skillfully polished gadgets that no one has ever built, with a higher screen than the previous iPhone, integrated in a device thinner and lighter .

There are plenty of ingenious smartphones on the market, including the impressive Samsung Galaxy S III, but when it comes to merging hardware, software and services, Apple has no rival. "

Do not think anyone can argue the first point. The iPhone 5 is easily one of the most attractive gadgets market. And in terms of performance, the phone is as good or better than any other model flagship competition.

But is it good enough to take the crown as the best gadget of 2012?. Here are the other products that were in the list:

  1. iPhone 5
  2. Nintendo Wii U
  3. Sony Cyber-Shot RX100
  4. Raspberry Pi Model B
  5. Lytro Camera
  6. MacBook Pro 15 Inch Retina
  7. Microsoft Surface
  8. Samsung Galaxy Note II
  9. Nest Thermostat
  10. Simple TV

I would say the iPhone 5 is a more than worthy winner. Remember that the list is not based solely on innovation or gadget capacity, also based on public perception and its impact on the market. And on those fronts, Apple's smartphone, is doing quite well.

Back in September, Apple announced it had sold more than 5 million iPhone 5 durate its first weekend. And since the smartphone has launched in over 100 countries, the latest being India and China. Overall, Apple expects to sell more than 40 million iPhone 5 this quarter.

What do you think? Do you think the iPhone 5 is the gadget of the year or he should have won some other device?
