Apple has announced that it has sold 2 million iPhone 5 in the first weekend in China, just three days after its launch on December 14. The iPhone 5 will be available in over 100 countries by the end of December , making it the fastest deployment of an iPhone in all its generations.

"Customer response to the iPhone 5 in China has been incredible, setting a new record with the sale, the best weekend for the first time in China," said Tim Cook, Apple's CEO. "China is a very important market for us and for customers who can not wait to get their hands on Apple products."

The debut in China has given Apple some air after recently losing more market share in the telephony world, overtaken by Samsung. However, the best hope for long-term Apple relies on new technology that is proving the biggest mobile operator in China.

Apple has been in talks for an alliance with China Mobile for four years. An agreement with the largest Chinese mobile operator is crucial to boost the distribution of Apple products. That country is the second largest market for the company and the fastest growing for the company, with 15% of the total revenue of the firm of California.

However, failure in attempts to reach an agreement with China Mobile were to lose access to a huge number of clients. As the growing Chinese market, Apple's sales increase, but China Mobile is losing ground.

Apple fell to sixth place in the smart phone market in the July-September quarter, according to research firm IDC. Samsung Electronics, Lenovo Group and China's Coolpad occupied the top three in sales in the third quarter. The three companies have partnerships with China Mobile.
