As Apple promised, yesterday went on sale the new 7.9-inch iPad mini and fourth-generation iPad with some changes that update the iPad 3. The first units available for booking sold out within hours last week. Expectations make a mini iPad sales of 1.5 million units in its first weekend.

According to initial reports, the launch of the iPad mini has caused less queues than previous releases of the iPad, with places like Sydney where you could see long lines that stretched over several blocks. Although the expectation is not as great as with the new iPhone, if you wanted to buy a mini iPad early in an Apple store, you had to stand in line. I'll show some videos that circulate on the Internet, where we can see the lines originating in some cities.

The iPad mini seems to have been a great success in New Zealand in the early hours of sales. The device represents, according to Brian White of Topeka Capital Markets, "the most successful launch of an Apple iPad has had in this country, just in time for the holidays."

Reuters also reports that the queues in Europe have been lower than in previous releases of the Apple brand.

"About 100 fans have queued in the rain in Amsterdam, while in Regent Street, in London, about 50 people have queued to buy the device a couple of hours after an Apple Store opened its doors."
