'Lightning' is a brand that Apple already owns, as demonstrated by two documents filed with the Trademark Office and U.S. Patent week. The Californian company wanted to protect the country registering the mark, used to promote the new 8-pin dock found in iOS devices.

But Apple encountered a problem in the way: the name was already registered by Harley-Davidson. Finally, Apple and the famous motorcycle manufacturer have reached an agreement whereby the apple company acquires the rights to the brand 'Lightning'. Just do not know the amount Apple paid to Harley-Davidson start using this name.

Harley-Davidson Lightning had registered the brand until 2013, but Apple has chosen to pursue negotiations in order to avoid possible legal disputes.
